How can I tell if the odometer on a used car has been turned back?

    Since submitting the answer above, my fellow "gear heads" have brought to my attention the fact that several new models come equipped with a digital odometer that cannot be tampered with.
    Well, there you go. Buy only used cars with digital odometers, I guess.

    • you missed the main point..you can buy a used cluster with different miles on it..+ or -..so you never know. i have also heard of people being able to tamper with the readings too.
      best to check with carfax...or autocheck..most records there are pretty good which is what you stated in your post july 10th.
