Question

Help answer this question below.

So just how do you move from a structure like the USA presently has to a more utopianistic society?

In shows like Star Trek and the likes society has evolved into one where it seems everyone has what they need and a monetary system seems to have gone by the wayside. People are free to pursue their dreams and so forth. So just how does a society evolve like this. Does it happen all at once in a giant collapse of the current system, or does it happen in increments? If it Happens in increments at some point wont their also be some hardship during the transitions and also a seemed collapse of current systems.
