Taming generally implies a behavioral changes, while it certainly possible to positively affect a animals behavior it is not domestication. Canis Familiaris (Dogs) have not only been breed extensively by humans affecting there morphology and behavior they have been domesticated. There are two theory's as to how man first domesticated dogs, man may have captured wolves gradually introducing them to life with humans. A more likely theory centers around ancient dump sites, were wolves could of scavenged and become more and more familiar with humans. Man has domesticated very few carnivorous species, domesticated silver fox are interesting example. After selecting the most docile foxes over a relatively few number of generations scientist were able to develop a very tame fox which actually mimicked the morphology of a dog. In conclusion a lion could be domesticated however it could never be completely tamed.
