Why are there gates at Heaven, and what exactly is St. Peter's job, anyway?

Yes there are gates to heaven because say someone who was supposed to go to hell came if there were no gates to heaven they could easily walk in and Saint Peter knows cause he has a big list and u say ur name and he looks on the list to see if ur names there if it is he opens the gates if its not he says u ont belong in heaven u belong in hell.
