Can identical twins be of opposite genders?

  • Identical means exactly the same. If one is male and one is female, by definition, they are no longer identical.

    • Not really an acccurate answer. Identical, when applied to twins, really means monozygotic, not "exactly the same". No twins are exactly the same, so by that definition there would be no identical twins.

      And sexual discordance can and does occur in monozygotic twins, albeit at very low frequency.

    • that is not true alot of people assume that since twins are born in the same sack then they are identical that is just monzygotic twins. meaning one egg. identical twins are twins who have identical strans of dna on a base look but when you get down to mitochondrial dna they may differ
