What does it mean to be "on edge"?

    It means to be anxious, waiting for something to happen.

    For example,
    Say you see a child who is climbing a tree, and you're sure will fall and hurt himself. You might be 'on edge' waiting and anticipating the fall.

    You could also be considered 'on edge' if you're waiting anxiously and nervously for exam results.
